Villajoyosa is a coastal town and municipality in the Province of Alicante, right by the Mediterranean Sea. The town is known to the locals simply as La Vila. It is a beautiful location and is located just 30 minutes’ drive from Alicante airport. La Vila Joiosa literally means “Joyful Town”, although the inhabitants often abbreviate it to La Vila. With over three kilometres of beaches, including La Platja Centre (Central Beach), it’s not hard to see why so many love visiting La Vila.

 

The area is famous for its deep history in fishing, its chocolate industry (with visits possible to Valor’s Chocolate Factory), and the town’s festival of Moros i Cristians. Celebrated at the end of July, Moros I Cristians re-enacts the Berber pirate attack of 1538, and which according to tradition was repelled when St. Martha sent a flash flood, the festival has also been declared an International Tourist Interest Festival.
